Donate or Collect Books

We welcome donations of new and gently-loved children’s books. Our program model is centered on community involvement and encouraging individuals, families, and organizations to actively donate books so they can be re-homed to children who may not have access to books outside of class.

PLEASE NOTE, we only collect and accept books for young children ages 0-5 (preschool age). The children we serve are typically read to by adults, just learning to talk, or looking at pictures. We do not have the capacity to collect or store books for older children, teens, or adults.

If your books are for older children or adults, please visit our blog for a list of other area organizations that accept books for all ages.

Books we accept:

  • Board books

  • Picture books

  • Spanish language books

  • Simple story books

  • Character books (Sesame Street, Disney, Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig, etc.)

  • Books introducing the alphabet, numbers, colors, animals, shapes, and words

  • Early readers with pictures and large fonts (leveled readers 1 and 2)

Books we do NOT accept:

  • Chapter books

  • Books from fast food meals

  • Vintage books (1970s and earlier)

  • Damaged books (missing covers/pages, waterlogged, etc.)

  • Magazines

  • Workbooks or textbooks

  • Coloring books

  • Books for children in grades 1-12

  • Books for adults

Book Donations

If you have books to donate for preschool age children, we periodically schedule drop off days at our office in Plano. Drop off days are announced via Facebook and Instagram.

Books can also be dropped off with our friends at Wild Birds Unlimited in Frisco.

We cannot schedule pick ups for individual book donations at this time.

Host a Book Drive

Hosting a book drive is a great individual or group volunteer activity. We welcome book drives from schools, businesses, houses of worship, and other organizations, as well as individual book drives. Please contact us before conducting a book drive to ensure we have capacity to accept your donation.

Please refer to the list of books we accept to ensure you are collecting books we are able to use. You may need to find other organizations that accept books for older kids and adults if you collect them.

Our Book Drive Guide gives further information on hosting a book drive and counting the books collected. Please complete the form at the bottom of the page to receive a copy.

Host a Virtual Book Drive

If you would like to host a virtual book drive, we have wish lists on Amazon and Bookshop that can be used to gather donations from your organization, group or family. We can also work with you to set up a custom wish list to make it easier to track your group’s progress or to create a themed book list. Books purchased through one of our wish lists are shipped directly to us, so you don’t have to worry about storing or delivering books.

Books as Tax Deductions

Donations of new or gently used books are tax deductible. A receipt for book donations can be provided upon request.

The IRS prohibits charitable organizations from assigning a monetary value to in-kind donations. For tax purposes, the value of donated goods is considered to be the fair market value (the price someone would actually pay in a consignment or thrift store) for used household goods. Please consult a tax professional for help or questions.
